Our mission

SIRCULAR is committed to creating digital tools, technological solutions, and services to drive the decarbonisation of the built environment. The project aims to develop a methodology for assessing the circularity of buildings, which will evaluate the impact of new construction technologies in demonstration projects. These solutions will be accessible to both non-experts and construction professionals, allowing for easier access to information on decarbonisation and tools to improve circularity.

What are our key objectives?

SIRCULAR’s key objectives include

Simplifying sustainable building for everyone

SIRCULAR will develop user-friendly digital tools to guide both non-experts and professionals through sustainable construction processes, making circularity accessible to all.

Expanding decarbonisation options for zero-emission buildings

The project will increase the range of decarbonisation options by developing tools to assess building circularity and key performance indicators (KPIs) that support zero-emission structures.

Strengthening value chain engagement in local innovation clusters

SIRCULAR will enhance engagement across the construction value chain through innovative contract models and create regional innovation clusters in Spain, Estonia, Greece, and Germany.

Accelerating the adoption of sustainable renovation methods

The project will speed up the market adoption of sustainable renovation solutions by improving understanding of investment risks and supporting faster, bottom-up adoption of circular practices.

Creating low-risk business opportunities in the circular economy

SIRCULAR will develop new business opportunities with reduced investment risks in the circular economy by analysing financial, ESG (Environmental, Social und Governance), and regulatory risks to guide better decision-making.

Boosting stakeholder engagement across the construction industry

The project will increase involvement from communities, businesses, authorities, and the broader construction value chain through user-centric design and social innovation activities.

In addition, SIRCULAR will engage the entire supply chain across all phases of a building’s life cycle, aiming to increase circularity and sustainability in the construction sector. The project will work with four regional clusters focused on Estonia, Spain, Germany, and Greece, involving construction companies, housing organisations, universities, and local governments. Special attention will be given to buildings occupied by vulnerable groups, aligning with SIRCULAR’s vision of a just and affordable transition.

Partners

SIRCULAR is coordinated by RINA-C and combines the expertise of 22 partners from six European countries, including universities, SMEs, NGOs, and industries. During the next three-and-a-half-years, SIRCULAR will transform the building sector into a circular and sustainable industry, aligned with the Built4People partnership principles.
