We’re happy to share that SIRCULAR and IWG5 Buildings EU projects are collaborating to accelerate the transition to energy efficient, circular and decarbonised buildings. Both projects aim to reshape the way we think about construction and renovation, ensuring that sustainability isn’t just a goal, but the foundation of the industry’s future.

The European Green Deal has set ambitious climate targets, and the buildings sector has a huge role to play in achieving them. Buildings are responsible for around 40% of European energy consumption and 36% of CO₂ emissions – meaning that if we are to achieve net zero, we need a massive shift in the way buildings are constructed, renovated and used.

By bringing together SIRCULAR’s people-focused innovation and IWG5’s policy expertise, this collaboration is about making sustainability practical, profitable and possible for everyone—from homeowners to major industry players. Both SIRCULAR and IWG5 Buildings share a common mission: to transform buildings from major energy consumers into climate-friendly, circular assets.

IWG5 Buildings is the Implementation Working Group on Energy Efficiency in Buildings within the European Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan. It is is composed of representatives of EU and associated countries, industrial stakeholders, non-governmental organisations and research institutes and works to unlock the energy savings potential of the building sector—this includes boosting the potential of existing and new buildings. IWG5 is driving policy and innovation to turn sustainability talk into action.
