In February, SIRCULAR project partner Hellenic Passive House Institute (HPHI) visited the project’s Greek pilot site “Lela Karagiannis”, the 21st Primary School of Athens.

The SIRCULAR team spoke with the headmistress, teachers and kids about their thermal comfort inside the classrooms. The students completed a questionnaire and learned about Passive House principles and how to apply the them in schools, and talked about recycling and sustainability solutions.

The historic school building will be analysed for energy efficiency, aiming to enhance the thermal comfort of students and staff—who spend a significant part of their day at school. By integrating Passive House principles with the innovative tools developed in the project, we’re not just improving one school—we’re creating a highly replicable model for energy-efficient school renovations all across Greece. This will enable quick, cost-effective, and accurate interventions to improve learning environments nationwide.

HPHI would like to thank the school’s principal, Ms. Ioanna Chalkia, for her support and valuable assistance.
Please note: HPHI has signed permission to use photos of the school’s students.
