The construction industry plays an important role in Europe’s climate ambitions. To support its transition toward greater sustainability and circularity, the two Horizon Europe-funded projects SIRCULAR and INBUILT are joining forces to host the workshop “Concrete Solutions to the Challenges of Building Decarbonisation in the Construction Sector” on 30 September in Barcelona.

Organised by SIRCULAR partners Agència de l’Habitatge de Catalunya and Fundació ITeC – Institute of Construction Technology, and in collaboration with Leitat Technological Center, the workshop will bring together professionals and stakeholders from across the construction value chain. It will provide a space to exchange practical solutions, explore current challenges and innovations, and strengthen collaboration towards the decarbonisation of Europe’s built environment.

SIRCULAR and INBUILT share a commitment to transforming the sector through a combination of material innovation, circular design, and digital tools.

SIRCULAR project is advancing circular renovation practices by integrating sustainable materials, lifecycle assessment, and digital technologies. Focused on the deep renovation of buildings, SIRCULAR promotes circularity through the reuse of components, smart material selection, and modular design strategies that extend building lifespan while reducing embodied carbon. Through real-life pilot projects across Europe, the initiative demonstrates scalable and replicable solutions that align with EU climate goals. By developing digital tools for material tracking and decision-making, SIRCULAR empowers stakeholders, from public authorities to designers and contractors, to implement circular principles across renovation workflows.

The INBUILT project aims to shift the European construction industry towards a more circular and resilient model by using locally sourced materials, reusing components, and reducing construction and demolition waste. Its approach also integrates advanced digitalisation, notably Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), to improve decision-making across the building lifecycle.

As part of its strategy, INBUILT is scaling up and demonstrating ten innovative products and systems, including rammed earth blocks, recycled bricks, hybrid straw–clay panels, waste wood prefabricated wall elements, smart windows made with recycled glass and bio-PUR frames, bio-based curtain walls, and insulation materials derived from recycled paper, textiles and biomass.

Don’t miss the chance to be part of the change.

Join us in Barcelona on 30 September to explore concrete solutions, engage with leading European experts, and contribute to advancing a low-carbon, circular future for the construction sector. Whether you are a policymaker, researcher, architect, engineer or sustainability leader, this workshop offers insights and inspiration to help shape the buildings of tomorrow.
