Estonian Union of Co-operative Housing Associations (EKYL) is a non-profit housing federation of apartment associations established in 1996 and working across Estonia with 1400 member organisations – non-profit apartment associations, that manage more than 50 000 dwellings.

EKYL’s mission is to support the development of cooperative housing and sustainable living environment through community engagement, strategic planning, partnership and alliance building, communication, and the implementation of knowledge-based activities as training, consulting, advisory services, research, national and international cooperation projects.

EKYL engages apartment associations to energy efficient renovations, energy poverty alleviation programs and sustainable development commitments; disseminates best practice case studies; and promotes the use of EU funds to achieving European and Estonian climate ambition.

Role: Stakeholder analysis, community and stakeholder engagement, capacity building and trainings

EKYL will be involved in the implementation of Estonian Demo, focusing on the work with homeowners and the apartment association. EKYL will support the processes by analyzing stakeholders and local policies. In addition, EKYL will organize the engagement and involvement of local end-users and stakeholders to accelerate social innovation, collaborative knowledge generation, and crafting a lifelong learning process through the Estonian demo to equip professionals with the latest knowledge and tools in sustainable construction and renovation. With specialized trainings and workshops, EKYL will facilitate a dialogue between owners, policymakers, and experts, fostering shared vision, and the creation of new incentives for better buildings. With its activities in the Estonian demo site, EKYL will address complex social challenges in Estonia, including energy poverty, inequality, education, and environmental sustainability that require cooperation across a range of stakeholders, including governments, community groups, non-profit organizations, businesses, and people.
